Privileges to Active Commandment Doers

Revelation closes with Revelation 22:14 that makes no exceptions to keeping God’s commands, Christ’s instructions, and New Testament teaching.

A person has to be found actively doing the commands of all Scripture in order to have privileges in the New Jerusalem. These are people that make the teachings and laws of God relevant to today through their careful observance of them, and practices each day. They are people that actively study the instructions to make sure they are following them correctly.

Where does that put the person today that just said the sinner’s prayer, but continues on living how they please, except maybe attending a church service now and then? Where does that put the person that goes to some church that does not teach the commandments of God and holy living?

Frankly the sinner’s prayer or some momentary assent to Christianity carries no meaning. Baptism by immersion is a good start, but even that does not save. It takes a lifestyle I don’t see among those that profess to be Christians and sure of a seat in the theater of heaven. Christians really approach Christianity as a sign on the dotted line membership application, and then don’t think they need to do anything to prove their membership from then on.

The Lord Jesus’ last words to us is to make sure we are obeying all of the Scriptural commands so that we have the privileges of access to the Tree of Living and also be allowed to enter the Gateways to the New Jerusalem. Those that do not make a lifetime proof of their salvation do not have these privileges, and frankly, they don’t have a place in heaven either.

Christianity takes work and there will be clear evidence of the rejection of the immoral, unethical, unholy life of the world. There will also be a clear rejection of the world to those that follow the faith of the Scriptures. Acceptance by the worldly is proof there is no change in the heart and lifestyle. It is also proof there was no salvation.

The “Wood” of Life

The thoughts come from the study of Revelation 22:2 in the Prophecy Guide.

This one got me thinking all day. The leaf and fruit bearing stake in heaven is commonly called the “Tree of Life.” But the word for “tree” is not used. Instead it is a stake, or piece of wood, generally prepared to be burned. In other words, it is a chopped or cut piece of wood!

Those that try to grapple with this unexpected choice of Greek words usually go to the cross, and try to say that the cross is represented in heaven, but it is alive and bearing fruit and leaves. This may be true, but it is based on human reasoning and not on any specific Scriptures that I could find.

I cannot get away with the comparison to Aaron’s rod that budded. When Moses’ and Aaron’s leadership of Israel was questioned (not a rare thing unfortunately), God decided to give Israel a clear and unmistakable sign that He had divinely appointed them. In short, the cane Moses used, not only blossomed and bore almonds, but it did so overnight. It was a cane that was several years old, and thoroughly dead, but it was fruitful from being in God’s presence.

Next, we are not told there is any soil in the New Jerusalem. Soil is something that is on earth. Trees on earth need soil to grow. However, these trees are in heaven and probably do not need soil, since all the energy they need is present in the air. They also do not need to be rooted down to survive the storms of the earth. Can you imagine having a tree that can be moved very easily? Now that would be something only Heaven could have!

Could it be that John was trying to make sure we got the message that the “Tree of Life” is just a stake that has leaves and fruit? The need of shade is a foreign concept in heaven. We would not need the protective canopy of a large tree to survive the summer days there.

If God was giving us a taste of the benefits of living in New Jerusalem, by showing what happens when a piece of wood is put in God’s presence, then if we needed the fruit of Life or healing leaves of Life for the people on earth we care for, all we have to do is get a piece of wood and collect the fruit and leaves from it.

I cannot wait to see this amazing board in heaven!

God’s Servants on the Lowly

Today’s study was on Joel 2:29 where God promises in the Millennium to pour out His Spirit on the slaves and girl servants. He had just said His Spirit would be poured out on all creatures, and to make things clear, He further delineates that even the slaves including girl servants would be given His Spirit! Wow! No one exempt.

To see this verse click on the next link: Joel 2:29 in Prophecy.

To get the extent of this change in society, the first term used is slave. These are people who are owned by other people. They are people who have to do the work normal people consider beneath their dignity. Common tasks that must be done, or things that a person does not want to have to do, are done by slaves, or servants. But there is another broad category that the Bible includes in this group. What we correctly label as public servants. Those who work in government are slaves of the people. It is interesting that most civil servants consider themselves masters of citizens, but in fact, they are nothing more than public slaves, there to do the bidding of any citizen. An citizen can take action against a public “official” and see that they suffer for poor service, wrong-doing, or incompetence. Private servants only answer to their master.

The second group mentioned is girl slaves. These are young females that are expected to serve their owners. Because they are girls, they are not expected to do a whole lot, as is expected of men, or even boys. Thus they are relegated to simple household tasks, and often not thought of very much. They pretty much serve the servants.

So what does that mean? God is saying that there is no person that will be too “low” not to have His Spirit! Even the lowliest girl or slave will be given the Holy Spirit. They will be able to grow spiritually and understand the things of God. They will not be spiritually blind, unless they insist on ignoring the Spirit of God.

Can you imagine a society in which God’s Spirit is in all citizens? We came close in some cities when this country was organized as the United States. The Moravians, and Baptists, had exclusive cities with only church members in it where God’s Spirit was prevalent. These societies had little crime, and could grow mightily spiritually. They spun off many other such towns, and were incredibly missionary minded. People loved doing business with such people and often would join, wanting to be more like them.

In contrast you had Presbyterian and Roman Societies. These hated anyone who was saved and sought to execute them. They hurled endless hatred toward those that sought to understand the Scriptures and many good solid people died under their torments. These societies were evil and filled with hatred and ill-will. They looked upon society as worthless chattel, and sought to extract all they could from citizens. Rome took everything of gold and value and sent it to the Vatican. So, not only did you have the whole government economy extracting wealth from the citizen, you had Catholicism doing it as well. It is frankly amazing that citizens can survive under these religions at all. But then again, if you look at those that live under these conditions, they are rarely rich people. They are generally extremely poor, and lowly people.

When Christ takes control of this world, all such non-sense will be ended. No longer will religious groups exist to extract all they can from people, and government will not be oppressive and all about taxing and regulating. Instead, even the youngest and most menial will have God’s Spirit directing and leading them. There will be true repentance and humility in all, and a willingness to serve others.  What a day that will be!

God’s Spirit Poured Out

Today’s devotions centered around the famous and often misused verse, Joel 2:28. The context is how things are going to be in the Millennium, after Christ has completed his all out warfare campaign to take over the Earth.

The world has sold itself to the Devil and all that is wicked, even though it does not have the right to do so. The world stands for everything that is against God.

Mankind fully believes that sin is a luxury and privilege.  Christianity is a religion of sinful privilege, instead of a religion of separation from sin as taught in the Scriptures. As such, Churches flaunt their lack of interest in Spiritual matters and laws of Scripture for that which is sinful and condemned by God. They claim they “live by grace” but have no grace, because they have no boundaries as set forth by their Creator.

So, once there is a very bitter military campaign to take the world over again, and most of the population of the world will be killed, and the only people left are those that accept God, His Word, His salvation, and His Spirit, God’s Holy Spirit will be poured out on all.

Now the verse is very clear that this pouring out of God’s Spirit is on all creatures. Wild animals are wild because they have no spirit in them. They are just bodies controlled by lust and appetite. They have no sense of right or wrong or any sense of boundaries. It is what the world seeks to become: Human wild animals! But, just as a rabid animal has to be executed, all that adopt such thinking have to be executed as well.

But, the indication of the pouring out of all of God’s Spirit will be seen in the social changes. This verse is everything but what the Pentecostal and Charismatic cults have done with the verse! Society will be so different that the younger folks will go about proclaiming God’s word. Instead of being out there to play and abuse themselves and all they meet, they will be studying the Scriptures and going about preaching what they learn!

Next the elderly will be very energetic and full of vigor, so that they are able to dream about things, and act as if they are youngsters. The point being, instead of becoming sedentary and very weak as they age, they will remain vigorous, active and full of energy and enthusiasm.

And thirdly, the younger men will be full of vision about how things need to be and in full awareness of how to accomplish what needs to be done. The contrast is the younger men of today who are impetuous, and do things without an awareness of what they are really doing.

Those who are the true believer in God, His Son, and His redemption, are given the Holy Spirit to help them learn and develop. There are very few today that have the Holy Spirit of God indwelling them. In the future, once the world is forced to comply with God, the Spirit of God will be on all creatures of the world. “Worldliness” will be done, and gone. Wholesomeness, vitality, energy, and awareness will the norm!

So, come Lord Jesus! Lets get started!
