The “Wood” of Life

Jan

The thoughts come from the study of Revelation 22:2 in the Prophecy Guide.

This one got me thinking all day. The leaf and fruit bearing stake in heaven is commonly called the “Tree of Life.” But the word for “tree” is not used. Instead it is a stake, or piece of wood, generally prepared to be burned. In other words, it is a chopped or cut piece of wood!

Those that try to grapple with this unexpected choice of Greek words usually go to the cross, and try to say that the cross is represented in heaven, but it is alive and bearing fruit and leaves. This may be true, but it is based on human reasoning and not on any specific Scriptures that I could find.

I cannot get away with the comparison to Aaron’s rod that budded. When Moses’ and Aaron’s leadership of Israel was questioned (not a rare thing unfortunately), God decided to give Israel a clear and unmistakable sign that He had divinely appointed them. In short, the cane Moses used, not only blossomed and bore almonds, but it did so overnight. It was a cane that was several years old, and thoroughly dead, but it was fruitful from being in God’s presence.

Next, we are not told there is any soil in the New Jerusalem. Soil is something that is on earth. Trees on earth need soil to grow. However, these trees are in heaven and probably do not need soil, since all the energy they need is present in the air. They also do not need to be rooted down to survive the storms of the earth. Can you imagine having a tree that can be moved very easily? Now that would be something only Heaven could have!

Could it be that John was trying to make sure we got the message that the “Tree of Life” is just a stake that has leaves and fruit? The need of shade is a foreign concept in heaven. We would not need the protective canopy of a large tree to survive the summer days there.

If God was giving us a taste of the benefits of living in New Jerusalem, by showing what happens when a piece of wood is put in God’s presence, then if we needed the fruit of Life or healing leaves of Life for the people on earth we care for, all we have to do is get a piece of wood and collect the fruit and leaves from it.

I cannot wait to see this amazing board in heaven!

Drinking Nazir and Silent Preachers!

God chose out the most elite among the young mature men of Israel to be nazir and prophets. Nazir were those who made a vow to God and could not let anything get in the way of fulfilling their vow, not even stopping for a fruit drink, or cutting their hair. They were to be steadfast in reaching their goal and then returning to the Temple to be purified and released from the vow.

Paul became nazir to obey God and go to Jerusalem again, probably for a feast day. Even though he was an apostle to the Gentiles, and hundreds of miles away, he made a vow to return and make a required feast. Others served God in this way, always seeking to obey God and vowing to perform His duty in some fashion.

Prophets, or better known today as Preachers, were also sent by God with a message to Israel, and told to make sure the Israelites heard. Often the best way to do that was to get up at one of the great feasts and repeat the message to the crowds that gathered at the Temple to sacrifice and listen to speeches.

The normal Jewish reaction was to make those that were nazir drink some kind of fruit drink, knowing that such violated their vow to God. In other words, they did not consider such zealous obedience to God as deserving respect. They belittled it and forcibly sought to undo the vow by disqualifying the person under obligation by a vow given by God.

Regarding the prophets, they would command they not speak for God, and that they just be quiet. Those that persisted were executed. Often God’s spokesman was just one against a thousand that spoke what people wanted to hear, and completely opposite what God wanted said.

God is going to put Israel through another holocaust because they refuse to follow His Word or His spokesmen. They completely reject His Son, Jesus, the Messiah.

The problem is, God focuses on Israel and their problems, and the reason He will continue to pummel them till they get things right. Where does that put the Gentiles? If God is really angry at what the Jewish people do to the men of God, what will He do with the Gentiles that are even worse when it comes to holy people?

The holy men of God today are either without work, in prison, or dead. They are not allowed to speak openly about the things God says. America was the last place on earth where Baptists fought to have a right to speak openly about God’s word, have the children of America taught God’s word and prayer and to freely worship God without restrictions. These hard fought for measures have been cancelled in the United States so that it can be like all other nations, the majority of which kill Christians in mass killings after using them as slaves of the state to perform inhuman work in deadly conditions.

Meanwhile, clowns and entertainers have taken over the function of holy men, saying only things that fill the coffers of self-serving luxury and immoral depravity. They have taken the holy atmosphere of solemn worship and hymn singing done in the homes of the devout and built huge warehouses for the seduction of humanity, and the extracting of wealth from even those that have nothing. They make promises that never are fulfilled and become apt at lulling a nation into a stupor as it falls into disaster and under God’s curse.

Which crowd do you support and identify with today? Is it the broad way to your own eternal destruction and punishment or the one that is only for the persecuted but heavenly focused individual?

These thoughts come from Amos 2:12

Zephaniah 1:10

Wow! What a verse! Everywhere that fish is sold there’ll be nothing but howling. People will be filled with dismay and horror when they go to the fish rack, aisle or counter, and all they find is bare and empty shelves. Everyone in the industry will be howling and crying out in horror, because their whole livelihood is gone.

So what is this saying? It is saying that the current fish industry, as we know it today, and as it has been for thousands of years, is going to stop. Even some of Christ’s disciples fished with nets, and lived off the fishing industry. In the millennium, there is no talk of a fish industry. There will be no more seas or oceans. The great fish today will be miniature fish in the future. And the small and insignificant fish of today will be the large delicious fish of the future. Furthermore it only talks about people using a fishing line in order to catch fish.

With sin out-of-the way, the labor that is involved in producing food will no longer be a hindrance or problem. If you want some fish, you walk down to the river that comes from the Temple, toss in a hook on a line, and you have immediately a good healthy fish almost ready to eat.

There will not be a need for fish markets, fishermen, regulators, packing sheds, fish processors, freezers, shippers, canners, inspectors, buyers, auction houses, boat builders, boat suppliers, boat repair, search and rescue, etc. everyone involved in any part of the industry will simply be out of a job. On the day of God they will go about howling in despair. They will meet together to commiserate and mourn the loss of their way of life.

To make sure we understand the message, the second warning of this verse says that all the secondary industries attached to fishing, will be full of wailing. In other words, the destruction of this one industry will have wide repercussions in the world. There will be a large portion of society in every country that will be impacted by this change. This would include a large portion of the vitamin and pill industry today. It would impact the medical industry and their use of shark cartilage and fish oils and many other things that come from the oceans.

But, it is widely known that this industry is already in dire straits. Something dramatic has to happen soon to change the world’s reliance on this bounty of the sea. The fish of our day are over run with parasites, worms, Mercury poisoning, and all sorts of unusual and harmful pests. The numbers of fish have dramatically declined in recent history. Fish today are generally soft and lacking in character compared to what they once were. There has been a strong degradation and all of the fish species.

The Lord Jesus Christ is returning to this Earth with the Saints, and He’s going to put things back the way they are supposed to be. The fish industry is just one element that will be completely changed. And, it must be completely changed.

But this is only one area, because there is a whole world of change that is going to take place. And to keep us from just focusing on fish, we are reminded that all the hills will be brought down. So while there is mourning going on all over the earth over the loss of this major industry, there will also be the sound of rocks crumbling, being crashed, shattered and broken in the hills wherever they are. The only mountain in the whole earth will be mount Zion. Every crooked way, every hilly area, will be leveled. So even though the oceans, seas, and lakes that we know today will be emptied, the basins where they stand will also be filled. Instead of water basins, there will be a river that will leave the Temple of God in Jerusalem, and it will flow to the four corners of the Earth. In that river, which becomes four great mighty rivers, will be an abundant supply of healthy and easily caught fish. The fish life will also be a great joy to watch and will bring happiness and entertainment to mankind. The great dangers of the oceans, of boating accidents, of dangerous sea creatures, will be a thing of the past.

So is this great mourning, and crying out over the loss of the current world system of fishing a bad thing? Not when God is orchestrating it, and bringing about a system that is safe, secure, and not plagued with sin at every level. Instead it will be a means whereby anyone can have a healthy meal when needed, just as the days when Christ baked fish he had caught for the disciples to eat. Can you imagine a world where there are no fish markets anymore? Can you imagine a world where that pungent, sickening smell of fish is gone? Can you imagine a world where fish is free? Can you imagine a world where you don’t have to check through huge manuals and pay great fees for the privilege of sticking a hook into a stream or lake, but knowing you’ll probably go home empty-handed, and with the stack of new expenses? Can you imagine a world where only clean, healthy fish are eaten, and there is no worry about where it came from, or what is in it, who has handled it, or where it is been?

Then you are dreaming of a world without all the barriers that exist today to try to block the progress and impact of sin in disease. You’re dreaming of a world where you can run great distances very quickly and easily. You are dreaming of a world where you do not need to pack your lunch; you simply go about your duty, and know that there will be fresh fruit, and fresh fish, when you get there. You’re also dreaming of the world where it will take much less to survive and do well. Why I would say, that sounds like heaven on earth!

The Last Violin and Piano duets

2011

We are getting to the last of the violin and piano duet music that we can find! We’ve now pulled out all the stops to clear the finish line! Here is today’s work:

Jesus Shall Reign. This piece was written by Cheryl Macomber and has a very simple piano part. Coupling the simplicity of the piano with the beauty and tension of the strings of the violin produces a very comforting and assuring statement that Jesus Shall Reign on this earth!

The cover is a photo of a meadow on Mount Carmel and inside the cover is a review of the things that happened on Mt. Carmel in Scripture. Click on the hymn title at the beginning of the paragraph before this one and take a look and listen to the piece! It is a wonderful hymn with a beautiful arrangement.

My Saviour’s Love. This cover is made from a photo of Caesarea Philippi and a river there. A short description is given of the mention in Scripture. The music is a powerful arrangement that carefully notices the words and makes the message of the hymn a very poignant statement. We are so happy that this musical score is now available with the robot’s playing of it!
