Sailor Lifestyle Condemned

Today’s verse is Isaiah 23:4 which is badly translated, glossing over the potent condemnation of the life of sailors. Specifically, the port city of Sidon will be brought to utmost shame and ruin, as the fortress of the sea condemns the port for not promoting family morality.

The life of a sailor has historically been one of gross immorality and anti-family morals. Not only is the man of the house gone (and now women) and temptation to do wrong the norm among peers, but those at home are tempted to violate marriage and morals. God designed that a family be made of a woman and man working in harmony following His Word, and children experiencing the promotion of high moral values like virginity, education, sharp mental acuity, and clean moral values and manners. With either the man or woman being away, this will not happen properly. There will be distortions and lack of balance in the home.

Specifically condemned is the fact that sailors are not there when childbirth happens. Childbirth is a long process that starts a year before birth (and longer), and becomes more intense after pregnancy. Things culminate with the painful birth process for the couple, which is followed by months of sleepless nights and worry, and intense labor to see the child gets a good start in life. The life of a sailor boycotts this whole process.

Next, a sailors life does not build capable, strong, ethical, moral young men. It builds the opposite. Boys enamored with the sea spurn education, moral values, honor of authority, dignified demeanor and conduct, and above all, God. Living at sea does not produce sound, great young men.

Next, a sailor’s life does not promote virginity, and high feminine values among girls. Instead it promotes prostitution, alcoholism, promiscuity, and everything contrary to an elevated and honored woman. Girls instead are demeaned and nothing more than sex toys, and feminism is promoted rather than godly womanhood, and motherhood.

The result of a life that is dependent on the sea is a broken down town, where crime and corruption is rampant, and where children are not raised, but instead left to their own devises or the controls of a government that will not discipline or allow proper familial love to be applied. The end result is a lawless and deadly zone that has to be completely obliterated to preserve human life and dignity.

It is interesting to note that the great sea fortresses are the ones that speak this shame on the port. Even today when the ships are actually floating cities with every possible human want supplied, promiscuity reigns supreme even on military ships. Now with women sailing with men, there is no limit to the adultery and broken lives that come from being a sailor, or navy person. Disease and uncleanness abound even on the most “sterile” of ships because of filthy sexual habits of those on board. Then when on land, it pours over like never before in unabated lust and destruction, all enhanced by drugs and alcohol.

God hates the filth that sea living has generated, and will bring an end to it all when the Messiah returns to this earth. Will you be one of those who will die at sea or in port? Flee such a life!

The Dry Roar

Our daily studies have taken us to the book of Amos. Today we worked on Amos 1:2. The verse talks about how God is going to come to mount Zion and roar like a lion in Jerusalem, and against all the enemies that Israel has, which makes up most of the world.

But this roar from God is not just noise. It is so powerful that it blows away the countryside homes and dries up the pastures for the farm animals. God’s roar is so powerful it brings about immediate changes to the geography of the area. In other words, no one, not even a deaf person, can be ignorant of God’s roar.

By why does God let these very desirable homes and choice pastures just blow away? Isn’t that destructive? Isn’t that harmful? Isn’t that going backwards in civilization? What good can come from destroying the creature comforts that have been built up over time?

First, God’s own people are not innocent. They have made deals with their enemies and sought to befriend those who seek to destroy them. God had told them to completely clear the land of those that serve other gods. Israel never did obey that rule, and instead intermarried with the heathens around them, and has always absorbed their heathen cultures and customs. When God comes to town and roars, it is because He is incredibly angry and it is time to finally put any and all who compromise with the devil and his people to death.

Second, there’s been so much bloodshed in and around Jerusalem, that the whole area needs a thorough purging. Add to this the diseases and corruptions from immorality and unethical behavior, and you have soil that is extremely polluted. The only way to clean the whole mess up is to literally blast away all human residences, and destroy all plant life in the area. Even the animals and insects need to fast so that their systems can be purified and cleansed.

Third, everyone in the world needs to understand that God is present, and that he will not tolerate even the least transgression from His laws which were created for the benefit and health of mankind. Refusing to learn and follow God’s instructions, is a sure way to be locked into a life of corruption and misery. God’s roar signals that man’s freedoms are finally curbed. No longer will it be permitted for people to act criminally, immorally, depraved, or even improperly and so continue the effects of sin and disease.

Oh yes, we get riled up and then we roar, but when we roar bad things happen! People get hurt and disease spreads. When God roars, things cleanup, and get moved back into proper position, and what is right and proper becomes established.

Zephaniah 1:10

Wow! What a verse! Everywhere that fish is sold there’ll be nothing but howling. People will be filled with dismay and horror when they go to the fish rack, aisle or counter, and all they find is bare and empty shelves. Everyone in the industry will be howling and crying out in horror, because their whole livelihood is gone.

So what is this saying? It is saying that the current fish industry, as we know it today, and as it has been for thousands of years, is going to stop. Even some of Christ’s disciples fished with nets, and lived off the fishing industry. In the millennium, there is no talk of a fish industry. There will be no more seas or oceans. The great fish today will be miniature fish in the future. And the small and insignificant fish of today will be the large delicious fish of the future. Furthermore it only talks about people using a fishing line in order to catch fish.

With sin out-of-the way, the labor that is involved in producing food will no longer be a hindrance or problem. If you want some fish, you walk down to the river that comes from the Temple, toss in a hook on a line, and you have immediately a good healthy fish almost ready to eat.

There will not be a need for fish markets, fishermen, regulators, packing sheds, fish processors, freezers, shippers, canners, inspectors, buyers, auction houses, boat builders, boat suppliers, boat repair, search and rescue, etc. everyone involved in any part of the industry will simply be out of a job. On the day of God they will go about howling in despair. They will meet together to commiserate and mourn the loss of their way of life.

To make sure we understand the message, the second warning of this verse says that all the secondary industries attached to fishing, will be full of wailing. In other words, the destruction of this one industry will have wide repercussions in the world. There will be a large portion of society in every country that will be impacted by this change. This would include a large portion of the vitamin and pill industry today. It would impact the medical industry and their use of shark cartilage and fish oils and many other things that come from the oceans.

But, it is widely known that this industry is already in dire straits. Something dramatic has to happen soon to change the world’s reliance on this bounty of the sea. The fish of our day are over run with parasites, worms, Mercury poisoning, and all sorts of unusual and harmful pests. The numbers of fish have dramatically declined in recent history. Fish today are generally soft and lacking in character compared to what they once were. There has been a strong degradation and all of the fish species.

The Lord Jesus Christ is returning to this Earth with the Saints, and He’s going to put things back the way they are supposed to be. The fish industry is just one element that will be completely changed. And, it must be completely changed.

But this is only one area, because there is a whole world of change that is going to take place. And to keep us from just focusing on fish, we are reminded that all the hills will be brought down. So while there is mourning going on all over the earth over the loss of this major industry, there will also be the sound of rocks crumbling, being crashed, shattered and broken in the hills wherever they are. The only mountain in the whole earth will be mount Zion. Every crooked way, every hilly area, will be leveled. So even though the oceans, seas, and lakes that we know today will be emptied, the basins where they stand will also be filled. Instead of water basins, there will be a river that will leave the Temple of God in Jerusalem, and it will flow to the four corners of the Earth. In that river, which becomes four great mighty rivers, will be an abundant supply of healthy and easily caught fish. The fish life will also be a great joy to watch and will bring happiness and entertainment to mankind. The great dangers of the oceans, of boating accidents, of dangerous sea creatures, will be a thing of the past.

So is this great mourning, and crying out over the loss of the current world system of fishing a bad thing? Not when God is orchestrating it, and bringing about a system that is safe, secure, and not plagued with sin at every level. Instead it will be a means whereby anyone can have a healthy meal when needed, just as the days when Christ baked fish he had caught for the disciples to eat. Can you imagine a world where there are no fish markets anymore? Can you imagine a world where that pungent, sickening smell of fish is gone? Can you imagine a world where fish is free? Can you imagine a world where you don’t have to check through huge manuals and pay great fees for the privilege of sticking a hook into a stream or lake, but knowing you’ll probably go home empty-handed, and with the stack of new expenses? Can you imagine a world where only clean, healthy fish are eaten, and there is no worry about where it came from, or what is in it, who has handled it, or where it is been?

Then you are dreaming of a world without all the barriers that exist today to try to block the progress and impact of sin in disease. You’re dreaming of a world where you can run great distances very quickly and easily. You are dreaming of a world where you do not need to pack your lunch; you simply go about your duty, and know that there will be fresh fruit, and fresh fish, when you get there. You’re also dreaming of the world where it will take much less to survive and do well. Why I would say, that sounds like heaven on earth!
